Admist a CCPS BOE Denial, CCCS is Determined for the Future of our Children’s Education
The Decision: On Wednesday, August 26, 2026, in a 4 to 1 vote, the Cecil County Public School (CCPS) Board of Education (BOE) denied our application. However, the Board of Cecil Classical Charter School (CCCS), is very motivated and encouraged by some of the comments and suggestions made by the BOE. Not only were the comments supportive, but they strengthened our morale and validated our efforts to continue to push forward. The comments in their discussion left us – the CCCS Board – feeling inspired, confident and just as dedicated as we were on Day One of our mission.
Prior to the August 26th decision, the CCCS Board discussed the results of the CCPS Review Committee and utilized that committee’s criticisms to improve our originally proposed plan.
The Plan: We would like to hereby announce that we have already informed our liaison at CCPS of our intentions to file a second application. This second application includes enhancements that we have already made per our discussions with the CCPS Review Committee.
To enhance our application, we have added three new members to our Board. These members bring extensive educational backgrounds including, but not limited to, curriculum development, IEP assessment and development, union representative experience, school leadership, and in-class experience (yes, that includes current and former CCPS educators). Having the support of our local teachers proves that the need for a charter school is undeniable.
In addition, we have solidified significant support from kitchen staff, contractors, lawyers, and CPA’s in order to ensure that all of the requirements of CCPS, the State of Maryland, and the Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) are met and, in most cases, exceed the expectations of establishing a charter school in Cecil County.
The CCCS Commitment: We are both thankful and dedicated to our supporters, the parents, students, and entire community of Cecil County and we will not give up. As we have stated many times over the past year, our proposed Charter School is not intended to replace existing public schools, it is designed to serve the unmet needs of our students… we want to partner with CCPS in education and work together for our children, who are our future. Families are not looking for an experiment, they are looking for a lasting educational opportunity. Our commitment is not just about opening a school, but to building a sustainable, high-quality public institution that will continue serving students, families, and the community for years to come.
